Kilbirnie Street Fire – 50th Anniversary
A memorial service will mark the 50th anniversary of the Kilbirnie Street, Glasgow fire.
The service will be led by the Service chaplains, our Interim Chief Officer Ross Haggart, representation from the Scottish Government, as well as Glasgow’s Lord Provost and senior personnel from partner organisations.
The service will commemorate the seven firefighters who lost their lives while tackling a fire which engulfed a warehouse on August 25, 1972. The men lost their lives amid a flashover of extreme heat after rescuing a colleague who had become trapped.
Prior to the service, there will be a short wreath laying ceremony at Glasgow’s Necropolis, commencing at 10am.
