Case Study- Spanish Respite Apartment – The Mitchell Family
Recently retired WM Allan Mitchell and his wife Karyn have 3 children, Nicole, Kaitlyn and young son, Ben.
Ben has a tracheostomy fitted to help him breath and lives with chronic liver disease, requiring round the clock care. Ben has endured many operations over his short life, including a couple of stays at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
The family visited our Charity’s Spanish apartment, Myramar Del Sol, for a well-earned and relaxing family holiday.
For the Mitchells, holidays require a lot of planning, to ensure health care is available and all medical equipment, for Ben, goes with them.
The apartment provided them with enough space and facilities to enjoy their holiday and important family time.
Talking about their experience, Allan said, “Nobody goes through life completely avoiding traumatic events. It’s great to know that the Family Support Trust is there for you, when times are difficult”
Working within the new Scottish Fire and Rescue Service landscape, our Charity has expanded its service delivery area and our grant assistance programme is open to all serving personnel and their dependents in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Wholetime, Retained, Volunteer and Support staff are eligible to apply for FST’s assistance.
We continue to provide our services to our registered Beneficiaries and Retired employees of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and the predecessor Fire Organisations.

Retired Watch Manager Allan Mitchell
“Many, many thanks for our wonderful summer outing. The firefighters, on and off duty, couldn’t do enough for us. We all had a brilliant day, well done and thanks again.”
