CASE STUDY - McMurray Cottage

Aileen Overend is one of our Finance Business Partners and is based in Helensburgh.

Her world was rocked on Hogmanay 2020 when her husband, Andy, was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

What followed was gruelling, with Andy undergoing successful surgery in the Spring of 2021 followed by six weeks of daily radiotherapy before a longer course of chemotherapy treatment.

The couple had the added challenge of ensuring Andy remained safe from COVID-19 and shielded for three months, with their two youngest children being kept off school during that period.

During a break between Andy's radiotherapy ending and chemotherapy beginning, Aileen reached out to the FST to see if they could enjoy a respite stay at the charity's cottage in Portpatrick.

Thankfully, last summer, the family were able to enjoy a stay at McMurray Cottage.

The visit gave the family a new lease of life at a time when they were beginning to toil.

Aileen shared: "McMurray Cottage is ideal respite accommodation and is beautifully renovated with superb facilities.

The weather was perfect and Portpatrick is a beautiful and welcoming village community.

"The Family Support Trust should be applauded for having the foresight to add a local respite accommodation to their portfolio within this perfect location.”
